The Lions National Youth Brass Band will be giving a free concert on Thursday, 26th July at All Saints Church, Sidley from 7.30-9.30pm.

This performance is part of their 2016 South Coast tour.

The award winning band is  based in Sandbach Cheshire, and is one of the country’s leading youth brass band organisations. They have three bands and are run entirely by volunteers. The Youth Band, with some 40 members, is the most senior level of the band and the standard is generally from grade 5 and above. The current age’s of the band range from 10 to 18. Many of the Youth Band players have gone on to play with championship and first section bands including; Fodens Band, Black Dyke Mills Band, Roberts Bakery Band, Grimethorpe Colliery Band and Tredegar Town Band .

The bands are supported  by the local Lions clubs of South Cheshire and North Staffordshire and are one of only two organisations of its kind in the world to operate in the name of Lions Youth.

In the National Youth Brass Band Championships the band gained 2nd place: 2011, 2012, 2014 & 2015, 3rd place: 2013, 4th place 2016 (Will Dakin won best soloist). The band has also made a number of recordings over the years

A spokesman for the band commented “we are determined to further the brass band tradition, giving youngsters the opportunity to create music and foster teamwork and friendships in a way that attracts and inspires today’s youth”

Lion Richard Winrow, Chair of the Community Services team said “ this is a great opportunity to hear a first class band that appeals to all ages, musicians and non – musicians alike. Refreshments will be available and all donations will go to the Church Fund. Do come along for a splendid night out.”
