SAILING CLUB CADETS SET SAIL
Cadets and other Members of Bexhill Sailing Club were present when Bexhill Lions Club donated funds to purchase 4 new Topper Class sails.
In presenting the cheque to Malcolm Brookes the Cadet Captain, Lion President Paul Fleming said “We are delighted to continue our support of the Sailing Club and the Cadets in particular. Funding these sails will enable them to learn and develop their sailing skills as well as experiencing the thrill of taking part in races and attending Cadet Camp.”
Bexhill Sailing Club has an active Cadet Section which meets between April and September. There is no minimum age but they are typically around 10 years old as they need to be able to sail from the shingle beach.
Malcolm Brookes commented;
“We are thrilled to be supported by Bexhill Lions Club. Our New Club sails will give Bexhill’s young sailors a real chance to challenge at County and regional level. Sails are the “engine” of the boat and an efficient sail gives the sailor the opportunity to translate their skills, training and knowledge into tangeable results. Our Cadets are looking forwards with excitement to this Olympic year – we know these sails will encourage them to greater things!
Why don’t you come and join us?”
The new sails will replace ones that are over 30 years old. Our emphasis is to encourage sailing in a safe and fun environment. Many elements are part of the RYA Youth Training Scheme. The cadets are also encouraged to gain powerboat qualifications, to help with Club duties and take part in Club Races.
