NEW LION TO COAST ALL THE WAY
Steve Allen was formally welcomed as a new member of the Club by Lion President Rick Hough at the May business meeting. After a short ceremony, his sponsor Nick Porter, presented him with his Certificate of Membership and Club pin.
Steve was born in Hastings, grew up in Ninfield and has lived in Bexhill for 20 years. Married to Anne, a nursing manager in the NHS they have three children. Twins Noah and Amber who are 11, and another boy of 6, Asher.
Steve has worked for most of his career in the manufacturing industry and is currently employed as an Operations Director for a US electronics company based in Brighton. He manages a large team based in the UK, Germany and also the USA.
When not travelling on business he enjoys gardening, local history, music, theatre and many sports including football and cricket. Family days out to English Heritage/ National Trust sites include an essential stop off in the tea room!!
Not a guilty pleasure, as the calories are soon burnt off with some serious cycling.
Steve announced that his first FUNdraising activity would be a sponsored 160mile ride along the Coast to Coast route(C2C). The route starts at St Bees (Whitehaven) on the west coast and ends at Robin Hood Bay (Whitby) on the east. Tradition states you dip you back wheel in the Irish Sea as you start, and the front wheel in the North Sea as you end.
The route includes some challenging climbs of nearly 10,000ft over the 3 days, through the the “roof of England” via the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors. Starting on 24th June the first overnight stay is planned at Shap with Hutton Rudby on 25th and Whitley Bay on 26th.
Steve will be with two work colleagues who will be cycling to raise funds for their own charities.
Steve’s Just Giving page will go live at the end of May and the one month “live” period is timed to end as they cross the line.
Steve said “I’d like to raise between £500 and £1000 for Bexhill Lions Club and will be actively seeking sponsors at the end of the month”. He added, ” I am definitely not a professional cyclist in any way so this will be a major endurance test.”
Lion President Rick said “What a fantastic gesture for a new Member. We wish Steve and his fellow FUNdraisers every success on their journey and hope they all raise much needed funds for all their charities”.
