FESTIVE SANTAS DASH ALONG THE PROM @ BEXHILL-ON-SEA

Festive Santas dash along the Prom

The weather was kind to the Santas on Sunday, as around 200 people helped to turn the Promenade a festive red and white. Families together, babes in pushchairs, sons on father’s shoulders and Air Cadets all helped to make it a fun community start to the Christmas season.

Organiser Brian Comber said “I’m really pleased with the support we had this year, our largest entry since we started. As well as families and individuals it was great to see different charities taking part and raising money through sponsorship. We were also delighted to see members of two special needs schools taking part. Well done to all who took part”

Before the start, the Mayor, Cllr Tom Graham and Sally Ann Lycett from the De La Warr Pavilion judged the best dressed dog competition, won by Stretch, a daschund owned by Sarah Page. Mum Sophie Parker with Jessica won the best dressed pram.

Medals were handed to all the Santas, who then enjoyed mulled apple juice, kindly provided by the DLWP.

Lion President Nick Porter added “Our thanks to the Mayor and the management and staff of the DLWP for their support. A really big thank you to all who took part and helped to make it such a successful and enjoyable event. I would also like to thank the Members and friends of Bexhill Lions Club for their hard work in planning and running the event. Last year’s Santas raised over £7,000 for a range of good causes. Let’s hope a similar if not larger amount was generated from this year’s dash”.

Head of FUNdraising, Clare Kersley added “It was such a great event that brought people together in a true family event. Apart from money raised through sponsorship, over £800 was raised for the Lions Charity Trust Fund which will be used throughout the year to support good causes and those in need.”
