BEXHILL SKATEPARK ACTION GROUP (BSAG)
Members of the Bexhill Skatepark Action Group(BSAG) were at the Sussex Day celebrations, raising awareness of their campaign for a new skatepark. Their new banner, sponsored by Bexhill Lions, was carried from Galley Hill by members on their skateboards, to the terrace at the DLWP. Here they met up with a group of wheelchair users who had come along the seafront from the café.
Bexhill celebrated Sussex Day, 16th June with a range of activities: a display of classic cars, restarting of the clock at West Station, live music at No 48, Rother Community Choir at St Barnabas Church, plus Sussex Day food being available at various locations. This year, the event was supporting Bexhill Caring Community; helping the elderly in Bexhill, with the sale of programmes.
There was then a reading of the Sussex Charter by Paul Lendon, followed by the reading of a special poem, written by Clare Baldry. To round things off there was live music on the grandstand and the onlookers joined in with some dancing.
Sussex Day is held on 16 June each year to celebrate the rich heritage and culture of the County. The event takes place on St Richard’s Day, the feast day of St Richard of Chichester, Sussex’s patron saint. The date marks the anniversary of the translation of St Richard’s body from its original burial place in the nave of Chichester Cathedral to an elaborate shrine at the Cathedral on 16 June 1276.
