Others attending were Lions and their guests from Clubs in Hastings, Battle&Villages, Eastbourne and Uckfield.
Lion President Paul delivered a light hearted version of “If” by Rudyard Kipling,
reflecting the community and fundraising activities of the Club, including their donations, BBQs and Christmas collections.
Master of Ceremonies Rick Hough, then introduced District Governor Bob Prebble. He gave a summary of the Lions Club International Foundation. This provides worldwide financial support when disasters strike, working with the local Lions Clubs on the ground helping to provide food, accommodations and other essentials. He concluded by congratulating and thanking Bexhill Lions and the other Lions Clubs for their continued support of their local communities.
Lion June Hough then thanked each of the other Lions Clubs for showing their support by attending the dinner. Following a light hearted joke, June invited all Lions to stand and toast their visitors and guests.
Cllr. Watson responded by thanking the Bexhill Lions Club for its support over the years, to the local community. He said he was well aware of the range of activities undertaken by members which make a real difference to individuals as well as charities and community groups.
After a short break, guests were entertained by the Exiles. This popular folk and blues band, with outstanding vocalist Jane, provided a wide range of songs that were very much appreciated by the guests and brought many to the dance floor. As Rich (of the Exiles) said “We would like to thank you and all the Lions for inviting us to play for you and for making it such a fantastic evening. We haven’t enjoyed a performance at a “Formal” event as much as that for a long time”.
Rick concluded the evening by reminding guests of the Bexhill Lions Charity German style Oktoberfest on 9 October as well as the 10k link road run (in conjunction with Hastings Lions club) on 20/9/15, and wished all a safe journey home.
