Bexhill Lions’ 2015 Christmas Appeal

Bexhill Lions Club has started its busiest FUNdraising month of the year. The annual Christmas Appeal started on Tuesday 1st with the traditional house to house collections with Santa and his sleigh. During this first week, areas around Buxton Drive and Hornbeam Ave will be covered. The second week sees Santa visiting Claremont Road , Glovers Lane, Roundacres Way and surrounding streets. Seabourne Rd, Gwyneth Grove, Chantry and Colebrooke Road are visited in the third week and the final areas covered in the week commencing 21st are Royston Gardens and Links Drive.

Appeal Organiser Brian Comber commented “We schedule the rounds for specific evenings. but always leave a couple free each week as cover for bad weather cancellation on a particular night. We collect between 6.00pm and 8.00pm and all Lions members will be wearing their Lions Tabards. We really enjoy doing this and seeing the smiles on the children’s faces as Santa comes down the streets makes it all worthwhile”.

The family fun charity Santa Dash took place on Saturday 5th and around 140 Santa’s enjoyed a “bracing” 2K or 5K route before receiving their medals and enjoying a well earned hot drink, courtesy of the DLWP (FOR MORE INFORMATION FOLLOW THE LINK)

This year the Lions are also worked with the “Heart of Sidley” team tp provide gifts from Santa and also supported the Sidley Lantern parade and celebrations on Thursday 3rd with their sleigh and music.

Members will also be out with their barrel organs for street collections in Devonshire Rd, Western Rd and in Little Common. The Lions have also been given permission to collect outside Tesco on Saturday 12th , Sunday 13th and Thursday 24th . They will also be at Sanisbury’s on Christmas eve.

Lion President Paul Fleming said ” The money collected during the December Appeal allows us to support so many worthy causes and individuals in the local community. We could not do this without the support and outstanding generosity of residents in Bexhill, Sidley and Pebsham. In difficult times it is so rewarding to experience how much people are willing to help those in need.”

In addition to these activities, Club members have organised a Christmas cake  lucky draw to take place in a range of cafes, restaurants, hairdressers and retail outlets in the town.
