Bexhill Lions Club started its busiest FUNdraising month of the year with another successful Santa Dash, enjoyed by over 150 “santas” of all ages and with various modes of transport including cycles and roller blades. The traditional house to house collections have started with Santa and his sleigh with lights and festive music, out and about between 6pm and 8pm.Street collections with barrel organs will be held on Saturdays in Bexhill Town Centre and Little Common. Sainsburys‘ has kindly given permission for collections to take place on Saturday 17th and Christmas eve.

Head of Fundraising, Val Mewett commented “We schedule the rounds for specific evenings. but always leave a couple free each week as cover for bad weather cancellation on a particular night. All Lions members will be wearing their Lions’ tabards and will be carrying ID cards. We really enjoy doing this and seeing the smiles on the children’s faces as Santa comes down the streets makes it all worthwhile”.This year the Lions again worked with the “Heart of Sidley” team to provide gifts from Santa and also supported the Sidley Lantern workshop and parade.

In addition the Club was delighted to sponsor the Bexhill Schools’ Christmas Concerts and provided programmes as well as stewards for the two concerts.

Lion President Rick Hough said ” The money collected during the Christmas  Appeal allows us to support so many worthy causes and individuals in the local community. We could not do this without the support and outstanding generosity of residents in Bexhill, Sidley and Pebsham. In these difficult times it is so rewarding to experience how much people are willing to help those in need.”

In addition to these activities, Club members have organised Christmas hamper lucky draws to take place in a range of cafes, restaurants, pubs, hairdressers and retail outlets in the town. Lions June Hough and Val Mewett expressed their thanks to all the businesses involved for their support.
